An age-old argument goes thus... "Why do women wear clothes which attract male attention? And when we do get attracted, they accuse us of ogling at them!" well, I wonder who has an answer to this, but its well worth pondering on!
To some extent, yes, we do dress (undress?) to attract the attention of the opposite sex… but that’s natural, isn’t it? But that’s not the only motive. Most of the times, it’s just about feeling good by dressing up the way you want. Enjoying the essence of being a woman! And feeling good about your own self! Though it’s a different story that every time you go out you cannot hang a board saying 'don’t ogle, just feel good'!!
Concealment has for long been a trend in our society. Women have accepted the rule of shame imposed upon them by men… and coyness is expected, even implicitly commanded! The primitive woman, proud of her womanhood, defended for long, and the ancient arts represented it too! I like the structure I've been endowed with, may not be perfect, but I like flaunting it, not necessarily by exposing every inch of it… but by following the thoda dhako, thoda dikhao strategy… expose just enough to arouse and cover enough to retain mystery. I don’t follow trends. The correct fabric, the correct texture, the perfect drape, the sexy fall, a heavenly feel & comfort are what I look out for when hunting for clothes. It’s all about aesthetics.
In the human anatomy, the neckline, the back, the waist, the legs, have been eternally appealing to all. When exposed moderately, they can impart tremendous sensuality to a woman. It may NOT be to attract attention, but just to feel good and sensuous… for one's own self! One could look cute and chic in a skimpy outfit, or land up looking like a whore. But again, it’s a perception that varies with all and sundry. As far as I am concerned, every piece of clothing should make me feel beautiful & feminine. Now, in an attempt to do so, if the neckline falls, the hemline rises, I wouldn’t care less about what those ogling eyes have to say! Those prying eyes would undress one any which ways!
Finally it’s all perception! Vulgarity is all in the eyes! I love to revel in the joy of being a woman! And I love pampering myself
And I also love the limerick contributed by an Arc Bishop:
"Half an inch, half an inch,
shorter grow the skirts of mother & daughter
and when the winds do blow,
Both of them show half an inch, half an inch,
more than they oughter"!!
